LET THE STORY BEGIN…
The good news here is that this story is one of hope and building and searching and waiting and taking hances and running with a dream, even though it does not look like it is possible with the natural eye.
Suzaan tasted a specific home-made divinity nougat in 2016. A dream was birthed in her heart to make this… but she kept it quiet.
After all, who starts a new business in the middle of a drought… (and during a world-wide pandemic!?) To cut a long story short, she took courage, searched up the lady’s phone number and, as a good Karoo-lady does, she called after the 19h news. “Hello Theresa, this is Suzaan, I am calling about the nougat.” “Well, Suzaan, you called just in time. This week I am making the last and final batch.”
(Suzaan had to close her dropped jaw. WHAT amazing TIMING!) “I do not wish to order nougat, but rather to buy your business, if possible.” (Theresa had to close her dropped jaw. WHAT amazing TIMING!)
And so, it happened. Suzaan and Marian teamed up. They are friends from school and WHAT a dynamic team they make. Off to Theresa they went to learn the 20 years of secrets of this special divinity-nougat. A BIG step for people who has faced numerous financial challenges during the drought.
My miiiini part of this story is that it lived in my heart to tell their story through images. (I LOVE STORYTELLING!) As photographer, I was booked for a wedding halfway to Merweville and asked Suzaan if I could just continue with the road towards them and come to take some images of them, the day after the wedding. This had us both in tears, like JUST our Father can organize. It was the exact day they made their first order and it was just a couple of days before the official reveal of their new venture.
My heart literally sings when I think of these people, their amazing courage and faith… and of course, their very lekker Karoo Blessings nougat. I am so excited with the team of Karoo Blessings! May you go from strength to strength… one nougat batch at a time! And as you guys say… “Sometimes rain comes in a different form…”
